Hey Everyone,
Sorry for the delay in posting but I have a cold, a plain and simple cold, no Covid-19 here, but a running nose, lots of sneezes, I’m sleeping a lot cold … so hence the delay but I have dragged myself out of bed to put together this post and remind you that Kristian might post the follow up soon and you can look for it here.
But first …
The Rules:
- Find the muse within the photo or line provided and follow where it leads. It can be a story, anecdote, poem. Anything!
- The Story must be between 50 and 250 words, in 50 word increments. (so 50, 100, 150, 200 or 250 words)
- Link back to this post with the tag 50WordThurs so that everyone can find it, or post your response in the comments below.
Here’s the picture:
And the words,
“He backed carefully into the room, turned, and stared.” Lord of The Rakes – Darcie Wilde
Fandango from This, That, And The Other
Tammy from God Inspired Art & Quotes
He backed carefully into the room, turned, and stared. He couldn’t believe what eyes had beholden. A golden box half way wrapped in bronze gift paper. “It better be money.” as he proceeded towards the unmasked treasure. He lifted the latchet from the top snail likely. An ancient scroll peeped to the top as green orbs tried to verify the uncommon writings. “What…is this?” Now taking out the scroll.
This is my take on the prompt:
Martin had been struggling for a while, denying the truth but as he navigated the hallway with the tray containing the cooked to perfection turkey he was forced to concede the truth. The old football injury was getting worse, that knee replacement couldn’t wait much longer.
Determined not to let his agony put a dampener on the show he backed carefully into the room, turned and stared.
He’d not been to his daughter’s house before but now he understood her tentative tone when he’d offered to assist in serving Christmas dinner.
The flight of stairs was daunting to say the least.
