Mary rubbed her arms briskly, when John had suggested hide and seek she had thought it was a game but now it didn’t seem that much fun.
There was no one around and the only sign of life was the lighthouse at the end of the railway track but instead of inspiring relief, the sight of it filled her with dread.
Turning around Mary decided she would return to the hotel, John would grow bored and return eventually.
She shivered as she stepped onto the road, unaware that the clown sighed with regret as she moved beyond his reach.
