He had lived his life at one remove from the world around him, and now he was paying the price in madness.

John Connolly – Night Music.  Nocturnes Volume 2

Here’s my attempt for the week:

He had been dawdling along, his mind consumed with his latest book, when he had realized two things.  The sky had grown darker and the English countryside was gone.

He stilled, taking his surroundings in, noticing that the houses were the colours of rainbows.  A silly smile twisted his lips, he had lived his life once removed from the world around him, and now he was paying the price in madness.

He sighed; well it could be worse, no dragons watching from the parapets.

He didn’t see the werewolf peering around the corner of the building, licking its lips hungrily.

Thanks to everyone who participated last week, there was quite a versatile response.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all those who participated last week – this week I’m wondering what this fellow is dreaming about.  Any ideas?

No, no, don’t open the door … don’t open the door!!!!

And from last week:

P1020719

I heard a rumour that they’re going to shake things up – predators and prey in the same enclosure.

Charles from Potatoes and More Potatoes – “I don’t care how long it takes or what I have to do, but I’m going to find the guy who stole my legs”

VJ Knutson from One Woman’s Quest – “So, do you think it’s going to rain today? My arthritis is acting up something terrible.”

Tim Willow from The Rebel Fish – “Do you know anyone who likes grass?”

Amrita from The Floating Thoughts – “Oh dear! Can I have a kiss?”
“Mehh!”

Fandango from This, That and the Other – Go have a look – it’s a very funny photo response.

Helene Vallant from Willow Poetry – “What do you say we go in the back shed and have a little fun?”

ArtisanX from Proscenium – “Look on the bright side we aren’t in it up to our ears, yet.”

Michael from Morpethroad – “I said Marcy, I said Marcy, she is such a stuck up bitch.”

[entrants]

When her daughter had stated she wanted to enter the contest, she had smiled and nodded encouragingly, fully aware that the outcome would be tears and tantrums.

She had watched with dread as her daughter had applied herself diligently to the task at hand, insisting on designing the containers to hold her entrants herself.

Then the day arrived and they had set out to the competition.

While her daughter had suffered tremendous disappointment when her hollyhocks had passed unrecognized, the aftershock was the reception of her hand crafted plant pots.

To date they had sold well into their millions.

“I’m not a songwitch,” Kassa protested.

Tansy Rayner Roberts – Splashdance Silver

Here’s my attempt for the week:

“I’m not a songwitch,” Kassa protested, aware that her protest sounded to vehement even to her own ears.

“I think doth protest too much,” He stated in a clear succinct tone and Kassa tossed her head belligerently aware that the others were eyeing her warily.

“Anyway, what does it matter if I am?”  She asked as the silence stretched uncomfortably.

“If you’re a songwitch, then it’s your duty.”  He stated, his tone implying that she would have little choice.

“To do what?”

As he smiled she felt her heart sink.

“To entertain us and sing, of course.”  He replied smugly.

Thanks to everyone who participated last week, do yourself a favour and check out the selection below:

He had just violated a fairly elemental rule; he had snitched.

And from last week:

1687138

I spy with my little eye something beginning with …..

Kristian from Tales from the mind of Kristian – “Help, The cat’s got my tongue!”

VJ Knutson from One Woman’s Quest – “I know I’m not supposed to go there, but I’m just so tempted.”

Michele from 365 days of Happiness – “Can you please share your honey with me?”

Michael from Morpethroad – “Pssst, when I say three, run for it..”

ArtisanX from Proscenium – “Ready or not here I come!” OR “Hello? (lo lo lo lo) Can anyone here me (me me me)”

Chelsea Owen from A Wife, My Verse and Every Little Thing – “Just one more winter, Beatrice. Then I’ll have grown large enough to break this grate and you and I may leave this zoo forever!”

And from the week before:

1678969

Mum said if we get wet feet, we’re dead ducks.

Michael from Morpethroad – “You sure it was here you dropped your wedding ring?”

ArtisanX from Proscenium – “hot… hot… hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot…”

[paranoia]

“We took a wrong turn I tell you,” Her high pitched voice made him cringed; claustrophobia was such an irrational fear.

When he had suggested that they follow the tunnel to the caves, she had agreed reluctantly but as the tunnel narrowed her paranoia escalated … along with his headache.

“We’ll be there in a minute.”  He tried to speak calmly but her flush of annoyance suggested he had been less than successful even as he lifted the lamp high, illuminating the cave beyond.

“Oh look, it’s an earthen cathedral.”

“My god, there could be bats.”  He stated, horrified.
