July Writing Prompts – 29th

[red]

She had a swagger,
She walked with a sway
She wore a red dress
Everyday

She loved to play poker
Though she never won
She liked to dance
In the sun

At night she did tai chi
Before she went to bed
In the morning she got up early
And left when the news was said

She didn’t like nursery rhymes
They were too coy for her
She’d rather play her drums
With vigor and fervour

She had no need for men
They were distractions to avoid
She was intent upon her whims
And they only made her annoyed

If I’d stopped to think I might not have done it, but fury is a great disregarder of caution.

Knock Down by Dick Francis

Here’s my attempt for this week:

If I’d stopped to think I might not have done it, but fury is a great disregarder of caution.  It made my blood boil; he treated that boat better than he treated his daughter.

I watched the boat drift away, then I turned; it was time to face the music.

Thanks to everyone who participated last week:

The binoculars gripped harshly against his eyelids, at the approaching white jeep in the distance. It zoomed in closer.
“Sir…Sir.” A young voice rang from behind him.
“Shhhh- There’d here! Get the armor ready!” He whispered removing the object from his eyes, moving back into their tents. The war was on.

“Whatever presence it was that had been observing her as she made her way through the woods, it was now pursuing her.”

Here’s my attempt for this week:

Darlene paused to catch her breath, she had come to a realization – whatever presence it was that had been observing her as she made her way through the woods, might now be pursuing her but she wasn’t going to out run it.

For a moment she filtered through her options, which were few and then she smiled.  It was time to turn tables on her pursuer.  Dodging behind a nearby tree she waited, trying to still her beating heart so she could listen to their approach.

It seemed an age and then she heard them, she remained motionless and as they passed by she jumped – landing right in the mud and sinking.  Her heart lurched and she looked up to see him racing forward and then he was upon her.  Max, her dog, was wagging his tail frantically.  Darlene laughed relieved, unaware of the figure that approached from behind.

And here’s last week’s participants:

“I don’t wanna!” She sobbed.
“Carla, you can do this. You’re a big girl now. Mommy loves you.”
“But it looks very big and scary and the trees are too tall!”
“Well, I can’t make it smaller for you nor cut the trees, but I know you’re gonna be fine if you. Just. Take. That first step forward. I’m right behind you.” Wiping the tears from her rosy cheeks.
